Find a girlfriend? Or a hobby? Seriously. The only way to maintain the DSP skills is to use them. The only way to use them is to find an application where they are needed. If you can't find that through work, hobbies are the next step. If you can't exercise your DSP skills through hobbies, you ought to look for some totally different pasttimes. (On second thought: You might want to do that, anyway.) Rune

Ha Ha Rune, How are you? I got some "touch of sugar" in my blood( 113 mg/dl fasting), so one of pastime is jogging. Already got married and have a kid and expecting second one. Life is busy enough , but somehow missing DSP at workplace :-(

By the way, I somehow believe the difficult DSP algorithms, if not handled carefully, can produce enough stress to raise sugar level , ha ha ha

One option could be to get a DSP excercise collection, like one of these, http://www.amazon.com/Computer-Explorations-Signals-Systems-MATLAB/dp/0130421553/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1259495562&sr=8-3 http://www.amazon.com/Computer-Based-Exercises-Signal-Processing-MATLAB/dp/0137890095/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1259495218&sr=8-2 and start woking through them. These books are based on that you have matlab available, but a lot of the material can be covered with only a C or C++ compiler with only standard libraries. You could also get one of the free matlab clones. Then get a cheap mic and use your PC to collect data and analyze. Do you have one of those propeller-like electric fans? Are you able to count the number of blades just by analyzing the sound? It can be done. Rune

As one of my university professors used to say, "It is very easy to forget the things that you never knew". VLV

Hi, What I think happens is that working in DSP leads to alcoholism, which raises our blood sugar. [-Rick-]

Ha ha Rick, that was of course true in my case.Implementing DSP is such an open ended and never ending affair, some times become difficult to draw line. By the way , Rick , please write a book on wavelets so that we can learn about the subject be amazed to see it working.

Is it evidence-based that alcoholism raises blood sugar? The next off-topic discussion should be on medical research fraud.... Steve

That also improves Hardware Abstraction Level.

Isn't it dependent on what you drink?

Too late. Medical fraud was already signed into law. May I suggest different offtopic? /------------------------------------------ "WASHINGTON (AP) -- The average interest rate for a 30-year mortgage dropped to a record low of 4.71 percent this week, pushed down by an aggressive government campaign to reduce borrowing costs. The rate, published Thursday by Freddie Mac, is the lowest since the mortgage finance company began tracking the data in 1971. The previous record of 4.78 percent was set during the week ending April 30 and matched last week. The Federal Reserve is pumping $1.25 trillion into mortgage-backed securities to try to bring down mortgage rates, but that money is set to run out next spring. The goal of the program is to make home buying more affordable and prop up the housing market."
