I'm hoping > he is on holiday.i called Jerry's number and left a message on his answering machine. then i called his son, David, and he told me Jerry's fine, but his computer is less fine (dead) and Jerry hadn't been in a hurry to fix/ replace it. but i am assured that Jerry's fine. hey Jerry, if you get to an internet computer somewhere (like your town library), we all miss you. r b-j

Jerry's loose-lugnut trick can work but it's hard on the wheel studs. I'd be inclined to replace the studs after that, but I'm used to maintaining race cars where the tolerance for possible damage to fasteners is low. I keep having to be reminded that the same standards do not apply to street cars. e.g., bolts can be used more than once, oil doesn't have to be changed after every drive, the tire pressures can be a few pounds off without hurting anything, etc., etc. On the other hand, most people don't run their street tires down to the cord before they change them. He pulls over and stops in front of an insane asylum. An asylum patient is leaning out the 3rd floor window watching the man. The driver removes the five lugs nuts and pulls off the wheel of the flat tire. While putting on the spare tire, he accidentally kicks the five lugs nuts down a sewer. They're gone! Now the driver yells out, "Good God. What am I going to do now?" The asylum patient yells out, "Hey, ... why don't you remove one lug nut from each of the other three wheels, and use those nuts to attach your spare tire. That will at least get you to the nearest repair shop." The driver yells, back, "Wow. That's a smart idea! Say, ... why are you in that asylum? The patient replies, "I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid. [-Rick-]
