Hi Eric, HEY WAIT A MINUTE!! Isn't that "The Most Intersting Man in the World"? Isn't it he: * Who speaks fluent French, in Russian. * Who NEVER uses lip balm * Whose Mother has a tatoo that reads "Son". * Who once visited a psychic,...to warn her * Whose business card reads, "I'll call you." * Who, when he says something costs an arm and a leg, it does. Ha ha ha. Yep, I don't often drink beer, but when I do, it's Dos Equis. [When I can find it on sale.] Stay Thirsty My Friend, [-Rick-]

Yeah, that was the only pic I could find quickly for which I could snag the url. My fave so far is, "Sharks have a week just for him." Eric Jacobsen Minister of Algorithms Abineau Communications http://www.abineau.com

Sorry for breaking in on the fun you obviously have, but what's the joke here? Rune

Hi Rune, Eric & I are joking around concerning a series of advertisements for a Mexican beer called Dos Equis (two x's, XX). Here's the interesting part: typical television beer commercials in the States consist of 3-4 skinny women in bikinis with their silicone-filled breasts half exposed. Such advertisements are both childish and tacky (in bad taste). Then the advertising agency for Dos Equis beer had an idea for an advertisement--they have an over-fifty year old very distinguished- looking southern European man who drinks Dos Equis beer. But this is no ordinary man--he's SUPER talented, able to do anything, and lives the most adventurous life imaginable. His life is so exciting that it makes James Bond's life look boring. The advertisement consists of a list of brief statements (see Eric's and my comments above) illustrating just how amazingly wonderful this man really is. Referring to the European man, the advertisement's narrator comes right out and says, "He is THE MOST INTERESTING MAN IN THE WORLD!" This series of beer advertisements have become very popular in the States. This advertising campaign, while wildly successful, was originally *terribly* risky. Here's why: [1] The targeted audience was young men in an age range of 24-35 years old. But the advertisement's main character is noticeably older than that age range. (Keep in mind now, in our distorted American culture, growing old is considered a shameful thing.) [2] The Dos Equis advertisement shows no half-naked women. [3] And at the end of the advertisement, THE MOST INTERESTING MAN IN THE WORLD states (in some hard-to-identify European accent), "I don't often drink beer. But when I do ... it's Dos Equis." So the risky part there is that the advertisement's main character actually says that he doesn't often drink the beer that they're advertising!! That statement drives home the point that, without doubt, Dos Equis *IS* the finest beer in the world. So Rune, what's the point of this thread? When Eric posted that strange message saying that some guy shook Eric's hand and said that he admired Eric, I looked at the photo of that "guy." That's no guy! Good Hell, ... that's THE MOST INTERESTING MAN IN THE WORLD!! Rune, you can Google on: "THE MOST INTERESTING MAN IN THE WORLD" and find examples of the Dos Equis advertisements. Eric, there's a Mexican restaurant in my town that I go to maybe once a month. When the waitress asks me what I want to drink, I always reply with, "I don't often drink beer. But when I do ... it's Dos Equis." Then she looks at me like I'm crazy. Ha ha. [-Rick-]

To go with Rick's description: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QI58wj4b4g0 And that's an old vid. There are a lot of newer ones, some are in the "related" section on the right. Somebody in the "FFTs in Excel" thread started a humorous digression with some facetious chest-beating, so I responded with a url to a picture of "The Most Interesting Man in the World" and claimed he'd said he admired me. A lot of places around here (Southwestern US) have it on tap. Many of the Mexican-style restaurants serve it from the tap in a frosty mug. Good stuff. Eric Jacobsen Minister of Algorithms Abineau Communications http://www.abineau.com

Dos Equis on tap should compete well with a decent micro-brew. Not that I can drink it any more, since I've discovered my gluten intolerance. -- Tim Wescott Wescott Design Services http://www.wescottdesign.com Do you need to implement control loops in software? I have never heard of Don Equis, but from now on, I am going to use your line. It will go down a storm in Belgium. And I bet pronouncing 'Don Equis' is easier than trying to get a Belgian to understand my pronunciation of Hoegaarden. Chris ================ Chris Bore BORES Signal Processing www.bores.com

Minor correction: Dos Equis (not Don Equis). It means "two Xs" in Spanish. There are two capital Xs on the label. Tres Equis is a genre of movies. Eric Jacobsen Minister of Algorithms Abineau Communications http://www.abineau.com
