The ADI offers ICE100B JTAG emulator for BlackFin for only $150. Is it a good tool? Any personal experiences, references? Vladimir Vassilevsky DSP and Mixed Signal Design Consultant http://www.abvolt.com

Hi Vladimir, I don't design with Blackfin but if i would I'd buy it because of its low price. I often read a russian-language electronic designers forum electronix.ru, which has a separate board related to DSP design issues, and i haven't seen any complaints bout ICE 100B since it has been released (November 2009), so I guess that it is quite good. Compared to the high-performance emulator it has several drawbacks: 1. It is quite slow - 255 kBps in ICE100B vs 1.5 MBps in HPUSB emulator. 2. It doesn't support two useful tools - statistical profiling and BTC!!! 3. And it is supported starting with VDSP 5 update 7 only, so there is no support in earlier software versions. BTW, ADI has been offering development tools bundles at significantly discounted price now: http://www.analog.com/en/embedded-processing-dsp/blackfin/content/blackfin_development_tools_offer/fca.html -- Alexander> >The ADI offers ICE100B JTAG emulator for BlackFin for only $150. It works fine for me, even a bit more robust against power-down of the target system than the USB-ICE was. Mechanically, tt is a PCB which may not fit directly into any target system.
