Oyslebo (&#4294967295;ysleb&#4294967295;?) sounds like it should be somewhere in the area near Bergen? When you plan to drive in Norway, beware the relatively long distances (~2600 km from the Russian border to Mandal), low speed limit (80 km/t) and the poor road standard (one lane in each direction and limited opportunity to overtake slower traffic). I routinely drive between Bod&#4294967295; and Trondheim (700 km) in the summer season, and I usually spend some ten hours driving, due to slow tourist traffic and heavy transports. OK. It may be that I drive somewhat faster. Just don't tell the traffic police that I said so... The average Norwegian driver will have a flourishing array of adjectives to describe small cars towing huge caravans, and under-powered mobile homes in 50 km/h up the narrow roads in the long valleys. In a decent tempo (10-12 hours drive per day, no tourists or heavy transports, no excessive violations of speed limits), I'd expect to spend three, perhaps four, days driving along the main roads from Kirkenes to Mandal. Every summer there are reports in the newspapers of traffic police stopping continental Europeans, say, between Oslo and Trondheim who are headed for Troms&#4294967295; 1500 km further north to pick up somebody on the airport the same evening. While driving 1500 km in a day might make sense in Germany and France, the effective speed on Norwegian main roads is basically half the effective speed of the highways of continental Europe. Except in the far north, the main road (the E6) runs well inland from the coast. For a vacation trip going south from Troms&#4294967295;, I would suggest to drive along the coast in Lofoten, take a ferry over to the mainland and go the coast road south of Bod&#4294967295; to, say, Sandnessj&#4294967295;en or Br&#4294967295;nn&#4294967295;ysund. Beware of many small ferrys, taking time and draining the travel budget. In the north, one should go inland to the main roads only for longer faster-tempo transport legs (e.g. from Br&#4294967295;nn&#4294967295;ysund to Trondheim, a 6 to 7 hour drive). Beware: I grew up in the Bod&#4294967295; area and have many relatives living south of Bod&#4294967295; down to Mosj&#4294967295;en and Sandnessj&#4294967295;en, so I may have a strong vested interest in promoting this particular region. ;) In any case, make sure to visit the Saltstraumen maelstrom 30 km outside Bod&#4294967295;. Bring a fishing rod (you may perhaps be able to rent a fishing rod somewhere in the area if you don't have one) and go catch some "sei" (I'm not sure if "sei" is either pollock or coalfish in English). I have had some of my greatest sightings of white-taled Eagles at Saltstraumen, when they swooped down on the raging maelstrom to catch fish. I'm sure you will have a brilliant vacation here. Rune

Yes, we do plan to take a couple of ferrys. Edith grew up in the Finsaadal area near Oyslebo (I don't know how to make the o's with the slash) and Kristiansand in the Southern end and will be the guide. She has make the trip a few times and told us it will take some time to finish the trip. But then, I won't be in a hurry ;-) Maurice
