The parties have changed. I grew up in the South where the Democrats were the party of the KKK, passed Jim Crow and segregation laws, voted against the Civil Rights acts and implemented poll taxes. We even had Bull Conner (Birmingham Alabama) who institutionalized the using of the fire department to wash people of color away. I personally remember Lestor Maddox (Gov. of Georgia right before Jimmy Carter) standing in the doorway of his restaurant with an ax barring entry to persons of color. You don't have to go back to 1927 to find the last good politicians. Republicans were instrumental in passing Johnson's 1964 Civil Rights Act when the Democrats voted against it. Sadly contemporary versions of both major parties are mainly concerned with getting reelected and not actually doing what is good for the country. We are most definitely screwed!!

As I said the parties have changed. But when it comes to protecting the rights of the abhorrent, look at who is complaining and who is not complaining about the "video" that was claimed to spark the recent embassy attacks on 9/11resulting in the death of an ambassador. I don't think there is a clear and cut dividing line between the parties as each party chooses to protect a "right" when it suits them and weakens it when it suits them. Certainly the government's asking UTUBE to remove the video goes against the 1st amendment involving government and its limiting of free speech. Of course UTUBE exercised their rights and refused removal of the video. Clay
