I look at that table, and while part of me thinks that yes, I can see that it's just painfully cool, another part of me doesn't like the external braces he had to put on the thing, identifies where you could run a brace inside the wood from the bottom part up to the saucer, and wonders why, for $3100, he couldn't come up with the same arrangement. I think if it were a "look at me, I did something cool" page it would be fine. But if he's going to charge a big lump of money for it, can't he just do a bit more metalwork and get it _right_? -- My liberal friends think I'm a conservative kook. It is art after all, not engineering. Are you expecting it to have a functional warp drive too? It's too geeky for me, but don't think its overpriced at all. I agree with Rick, it's cool! Al

Yes, I'm being curmudgeonly -- but I still think that if the guy is going to charge for his work he should step up to the plate and do it _right_. (And, if he wants to charge an extra $500 for the improved model, that's fine). -- My liberal friends think I'm a conservative kook. My conservative friends think I'm a liberal kook. If, however, as is the case here, it is presented in the middle of a lounge in close proximity to sofas and armchairs, it is a table. People lean on tables. They put cooked turkeys on them. Kids sit on them, pets jump on them, and all manner of other unsubtle perils lie in wait, so it is more than sensible to brace what is otherwise a cantilever already under strain, aka a break waiting to happen. As it happens, I see those braces as suggestive of phaser beams, and am perfectly happy that they are there. Can't afford the thing, though :-( Richard Dobson
