Can anybody recommend some books, or a book, that discuss Multirate DSP concetpts? Thanks, -Dan

Multirate Signal Processing for Communication Systems by fred harris is also very good. He mostly discusses communication applications in the 13th chapter. The first 12 chapter are devoted to the multirate concepts.

Fliege "Multirate Digital Signal Processing: Multirate Systems - Filter Banks - Wavelets" Crochiere and Rabiner is the classic text which describes upsampling and downsampling by large factors and corresponding filter design. The book by Vaidyanathan is quite comprehensive - it discusses Perfect Reconstruction, Near Perfect Reconstruction, Cosine Modulated Filterbanks, Paraunity filter banks etc. Reading this as your first introduction is a bit like trying to take a sip from a firehose (IMHO). The books by Fliege and Harris are quite good. Fliege gets into some of the mathematical depth as Vaidyanathan, but is a little more gentle :) Harris's book is more focused on the communication aspect and the idea of channels. There is also a good section on the Farrow filter. So which book you go to, may depend on what areas of multirate you're interested in. Cheers, David

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm looking at it from the perspective of audio signal processing. Nothing in particular, I just don't have any books that touch on the subject. I do have a book on data compression that talks about subband and wavelet based compression schemes, but it doesn't provide insight into actual processing of the data, just things like encoding and bit allocation schemes.

I know Rick's book has a good deal on this, including CIC filters. Also, if you're looking for wavelet processing, try these: @BOOK{strang, title = "{Wavelets and Filter Banks}", author = "{Gilbert~Strang, Truong~Nguyen}", publisher = "Wellesley-Cambridge Press", year = "1997"} @book{mallat, title = "A Wavelet Tour of Signal Processing", author = "St{\'e}phane Mallat", publisher = "Academic Press", edition = "second", year = "1999"} @weblink{clemens, title = "{A Really Friendly Guide to Wavelets \url{http://perso.orange.fr/polyvalens/clemens/wavelets/wavelets.html}}"} -- Randy Yates Digital Signal Labs http://www.digitalsignallabs.com

The fred harris book is fantastic if you don't have much background in multirate signal processing, even if your not approaching it from a comms perspective. I highly recommend it for beginners. fred's explanations and writing style makes the book very accessible. I don't own the Vaidyanathan book, but I hear it is very comprehensive.
