"Radiometric" ADC?

What is a "radiometric" ADC? TI is claiming it has a radiometric ADC on
its Piccolo series:

I assume you mean ratiometric i.e. out is a ratio of full scale full scale being supply, reference voltage, or in this case looking at the data sheet the difference between a high and a low reference voltage Lasse

I didn't come up with the term, TI did. (see the link) Perhaps "ratiometric" is what they meant. That's a fairly big spelling error to make it onto the web page. -- Randy Yates Digital Signal Labs http://www.digitalsignallabs.com

News headline writers have set the new standard of never checking spelling, grammar, or even general coherence of writing these days. It's spilling over into everywhere else. Eric Jacobsen Anchor Hill Communications http://www.anchorhill.com

Radiometric usually has to do with measuring light. Sometimes it means using something like a thermopile instead of a Si sensor. A thermopile has a black (absorb over a wide spectrum) sensor and as many thermocouples as you can put to measure the temperature increase. I will guess that someone misspelled, and the spell checker didn't notice, as it is actually a word. Even a scientific word, so no hint as to the mistake. -- glen
it could be dual-sideband detection in radio astronomy but that seems
rather spaced-out for a microcontroller...

overview.page I don't see it on the page now. Someone must have noticed and pointed out that the ADC doesn't count radios, but rather measures ratios. If it's the same ADC as the one on the '2812, it's (a) ratiometric, and (b) crappy. "Twelve bits going on eight" is how it was put to me by a crusty old analog guy when we were designing a bunch of them into some products. -- Tim Wescott Wescott Design Services http://www.wescottdesign.com

One would hope. But it is still there. Click "enlarge" and look at the Block Diagram graphic at the red square on the bottom right. http://www.ti.com/lsds/ti/microcontroller/32-bit_c2000/c28x_piccolo/overview.page -- Randy Yates Digital Signal Labs http://www.digitalsignallabs.com

overview.page Ah. When I didn't see it by skimming, I did a text search -- that doesn't help much when the text is an image. It's not just radiometric -- it's radio-metric. They probably needed to do that to pass spell-check... -- Tim Wescott Control system and signal processing consulting www.wescottdesign.com
