Usenet has competition, but it will be invaluable so long as stackexchange has a see-the-trees-and-ignore-the-concept-there-might-even-be-a-wood attitude like this... closed as not constructive by Tim, Andrew Barber♦, Daniel Mann, Henry, Mark Jan 29 '13 at 16:52 As it currently stands, this question is not a good fit for our Q&A format. maybe people are getting fed up with being told they are asking the wrong
questions.
And it can't be that hard to give a simple answer to a simple question,
i.e. what is the best way to perform dental surgery with a pneumatic
jackhammer.

I suspect it's simpler than that - people are getting too lazy to use anything other than a browser for their internet experience. -- Randy Yates Digital Signal Labs http://www.digitalsignallabs.com

Actually I think many if not most of the folks coming to ask questions over the last few years do so through browsers, like dsprelated.com or similar venues. I think that's part of why the formatting gets so wonky sometimes. The number of online tutorials, vids, pages, etc., grows constantly, so the number of potential resources to visit besides comp.dsp just keeps getting larger. And in most of those places nobody gets called out for trying to get their homework solved or being a bit douchy or worse. So I'm not surprised at all. for me, the pros of stack exchange is that it has access to LaTeX for math (so also does physicsforums.com or wikipedia) and that it doesn't need eternalseptember or googlegroups or something. but there's a few douchebags at those sites (not to mean we never get them here). just for my own interest, i also hit the Christianity SE page and had the audacity to get 100 points deducted because of a theological answer to a question about Young Earth Creationism vs. "Science". anyone get hit with -100 points at the signal processing SE page? -- r b-j rbj@audioimagination.com "Imagination is more important than knowledge."

Well, you (rb-j) **could** stir the pot by posting again on comp.dsp your impassioned rebuttal of the notion that the DFT does not induce periodicity in the time domain. It's been a while since we last had that brouhaha here. Dilip Sarwate

So you've now become a LaTeX advocate? Welcome to the club. (it took you long enough...) -- Randy Yates Digital Signal Labs http://www.digitalsignallabs.com
