OT: Looking for a Word

Started by Greg Berchin May 19, 2014
I'm looking for a word (or phrase) that means "succeeding spectacularly
at something but failing to reap any reward or benefit from that
success". It doesn't have to be in English, if it can be better
described in another language.

Thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg, How about: "an unrewarded triumph of epic proportion" Whew. That's sounds a bit flowery, doesn't it? [-Rick-] PS. I love that phrase "of epic proportion." It was spoken by Han, the villain in Bruce Lee's movie "Enter the Dragon." accomplishment conquest

"Pyrrhic Victory" translates to a one word noun in Dutch and Norwegian.
