Hi all, Need a bit of guidance. I am planning to do a small project out of my own interest and learning. I have choosen to implement an Mpeg encoder/deocder. Planning to provide support for both mpeg 2 and 4. But i am stuck at one point. The ISO standard specs cost around 140 $ each. And for Mpeg 2 there are some 10 standards. Now i would not be able to invest so much. I searched the web, but i dont think i would find some detailed specs like the ISO documents. Any guidelines in this regard ? Also, as i mentioned that there are about 10 standards for Mpeg2,which one i need to concentrate to develop a minimal encoder/decoder. I have the same questions for Mpeg 4 too.. Can anyone help me... thanks in advance and regards prasanna

There is at least one blocking bug to solve. (but we are off-topic here) -- Gabriel Bouvigne www.mp3-tech.org personal page: http://gabriel.mp3-tech.org

pachu, That is not a small project. It is in fact a very large project for a single person. Even for the minimal subset of the standard. If you are looking to start a smaall(ish) hobby project, I suggest you should rethink the idea and choose something more doable. Of course, I don't know your background so I could be wrong. Actually you are right....It is a huge project. we are actually 3 of us here....but i guess that also would be less... The basic idea was to learn concepts of DSP, (video and audio compression) Can any one suggest some good project so that we can get a good exposure to DSP concepts, let it not be too simple...we are planning to do some usefull project. Any suggestions ? regards prasanna eternal_nan@yahoo.com (Ljubisa Bajic) wrote in message news:<9b0afb2c.0307240805.6fc6bd39@posting.google.com>...> pachu, > > That is not a small project.
