Hello to everyone! I'm a newbie in DSP, so please excuse my stupid question: What serial digital audio format is normally used between ICs in a circuit? Is it sort of PCM or S/PDIF or AES? or just right- or left- justfied serial signal? Many thanx in advance for your answers! KMT

AC97, I2C (2-wire) and SPI are the ones I've worked with. Hooking up DSPs to AC97 codecs usually involves a bit of low-level coding. A lot of DSPs support the AC97 clocking, and call themselves "AC97-ready", but they don't have any support for the actual framing of the protocol or anything, so you have to write that all yourself. AC97 codecs also seem to be dying out of late. My Philips and TI reps. have both said that the AC97 codecs from those two companies are being phased out. 2-wire and SPI seem more widespread these days, and I know that in the TI world, they have a lot of ready-made software for talking to these codecs. Michael, thanx for your answer! It helped me a lot in understanding DSP and the use of DSP ICs! Best regards from Germany Kai
