I was careless in my comment.  Tim's testimonial about his increase in
speed backs up the claimed advantage.  Actually I am an advocate for
Dvorak, it is a better choice than my compromise suggestion.  But
having transposed the letters on my keyboard I can say that qwdrfy is
marginally better than qwerty even after only a few days, and very easy
to learn.
BTW, I like your quote about engineering, did you originate it?

Transposing dfjk with etni won't interfere with your short-cut keys.
Some of the most common digraphs like ed and er are not alternated
between hands, so it falls short of this efficiency of the Dvorak
layout.  Still, you might find it an interesting experience to try out.
