Hello Guys, You know how sometimes work brings up interesting possibilities. Recently I've been contracted to investigate radio interference for a major Cellular Carrier. And one of the places it took me was to the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Since I spent the week prior to the race handling all of the RF issues, during racetime, I was effectively on call with nothing to do - however I was provided a pit pass. So I used the opportunity to get a few snapshots. You may see them at the following link: http://personal.atl.bellsouth.net/p/h/physics/ Let me know what you think. -- Clay S. But I'm a motor head with two track cars, so I'm an easy sell. ;) I'm guessing you were either trying to make sure that there was enough coverage for the crowd or that the race-related equipment didn't interfere. Either way, it's nice when that sort of assignment comes along. Eric Jacobsen Minister of Algorithms, Intel Corp. My opinions may not be Intel's opinions. http://www.ericjacobsen.org

The detail in the tires inspires the question: did the cars pose for you, or did you use an incredibly fast shutter speed? Also I use a vibration reduction lens. It has an inertial guided element that really reduces camera shake. It is very helpful for panning. In some cases the cars were lined along the pit road - others were moving along at 160 to 200MPH! Clay

I worry about interference caused to public safety and interference caused to the cellular system by others. The public safety issue is extremely important now that a federal law requires mitigation to start within 24 hours of a public safety complaint. I spent 3 hours tracking down an illegal transmitter (it Txed once every 15 or so minutes for a few seconds) right before the race. As I got very close to the source it mysteriously was shut down and didn't cause anymore problems. Clay

A short track was set up on the front straight and used pit road for the back straight. A lot (if not all) of the drivers were teenagers. More can be found out here: http://www.mixmotorsports.co.uk/legends.htm I had never seen them before, but they run these cars early Sunday morning before the main race. Clay

No, you just posted your site to Usenet, that's all, and perhaps they give low bandwith with those sites...hmm, let me check Slashdot for a story on the race... ----- http://mindspring.com/~benbradley

I'll have to check with Bellsouth about the maximum number of hits allowed per day. Hopefully the hit counter will be reset tomorrow, and then you can see the pics.
