Control loop Question

If you have say a speed loop for a motor and an inner current loop, what spec should the inner loop have relative to the outer? I am assuming the inner current loop should have a much higher bandwidth otherwise it will interfere with the outer loop. Is this how it is usually done?

I think that's what usually suggested in the books I have read. The advantage ,from my understanding, is that you can tweak your inner loop while keeping the same parameters for your outer loop. Otherwise you need to validate your outer loop every time you tweak your inner loop parameters. That being said, in the cases I used it, I had much bigger fish to fry so I analyzed the 2 loops together and I tweaked all parameters (inner and outer loop) to get the performance I needed.
