Software for isolation of specific frequencies

Started by Unknown August 15, 2005
Hi, Everyone!

I am looking for a Windows software that would allow to isolate a
specific frequency(s) from a wave file. Does anyone have any
suggestions?

Thank You Very Much.

How user friendly, and how well isolated. You need a narrow-band filter. Jerry -- Engineering is the art of making what you want from things you can get.
Any windows xp application (not a console) is palatable. I need to
isolate a specific frequency(s), but not a narrow range, i.e. it may be
550 Hz and 1000 Hz, but not 550 Hz and 551 Hz.

There's probably something for you in Audacity. It's free. Jerry -- Engineering is the art of making what you want from things you can get.
I tried Audacity. It allows to change the amplitude of individual
samples but not frequency. I can't believe nobody makes software that
allows to isolate specific frequencies.

I apologize for the bum steer. I thought it did filtering. Jerry -- Engineering is the art of making what you want from things you can get.
It sure seems to do what you want, but maybe you aren't looking for the right
thing? The terms you want to look for are equalization and filtering. In
Audacity, select your waveform, then go to Effects->Equalization or Effects->FFT
Filter.

It does filtering. Check out the feature list here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/about/features
Dear Jon:

I have tried Audacity and indeed FFT Filter allows to amplify a
frequency. The level of specificity is low. I need a tool that allows
to amplify a frequency with specific numeric value. I have tried to
amplify 500 Hz frequency in a flute sample. I should have heard a sine
wave. Instead I heard a fairly good flute. This means that probably
Audacity FFT filter narrows the band down to the selected frequency,
but not to the specific value.

I'm a big fan of GoldWave. It does static and dynamic filtering. You can set
something called steepness, which I'm guessing is the number of taps on the
filter. You can see your results in both the frequency and the time domain.
The program also has tons of other features which can prove to be very
valuable.

Trial version available.
