Codec licences for MPEG layer 2 and AAC (LD)

Started by Tobias Erichsen September 13, 2005
Hi everyone,

I'm currently investigating some audio-codecs used in radio-broadcasting.

Apart of the technical issues involved there is obviously the topic of
licencing.

On the MPEG FAQ I found a contact at Philips for MPEG layer 2:
w.l.vanderkruk@patents.corp.philips.com

Unfortunately this email-address / mail-server does not seem to exist
anymore. Does anyone here have any pointers where I could try to
go next to receive more information about the licencing schemes for
this codec?

On top of this I'm also interested in the AAC low delay. Who is licencing
the IP for this codec?

Thanks in advance for your responses...

Best regards,
Tobias

Maybe Mr. Vanderkrug retired. Ask postmaster@patents.corp.phillips.com. Jerry -- Engineering is the art of making what you want from things you can get.

Unfortunately the mail bounces already at the domain-name, not the email- address.... Tobias

That is unfortunate. Try shortening the domain name; to "phillips.com." for example. There is likely to be someone at the company who knows. The hard part is finding someone who will connect you to that person. Good luck. Another audio-codec which is widely used in the industry is apt-x.
Their website is

Try www.vialicensing.com. I wonder how much of the MPEG-2 patents are still active. If I'm not mistaken some will expire soon. -- GCP
