I'm getting ready to order R Lyons book and Amazon is offering a deal if I
buy a second title along with it.

The second title is "Digital Signal Processing - A Practical Guide for
Engineers and Scientists" by Steven W Smith.

How is this second book? Does it compliment the Lyons book well?

Don't know your second title, but are you sure about this deal? Usually these Amazon "deals" are simply the sum of their respective prices. Lyons book is very good though. --DF

Amazon's book deals are usually based on total price, not on specific titles unless they're part of a set. I have both books, and I find Smith's occasionally useful. They are aimed at approximately the same level audience, and another perspective is always good. You can read Smith's book at http://www.dspguide.com. I bought my copy when I got tired of reading it on line. Yes, that is exactly the case. I should have said "recommended". Any technical subject I've ever undertaken has been done with multiple references. I don't expect this to be any different. I'm hoping some folks here have the second title so they can offer pro or con recommendations on it.

Hi Bob, I don't have a copy of the Smith book that you listed because that's his second book. However I have a copy of his first book which I like a lot. I think it compliments my book pretty darned well. If you buy a copy of my book, please send me an E-mail and I'll send you the errata. Good Luck & Regards, [-Rick-]

Yeah, I've been eye-balling Mr Lyons book for awhile. My other coding projects are in a good place now, so it's time to dig in! A few guitar goodies will round it out nicely :-)
