dspGuru is alive and well!

Started by Grant Griffin February 6, 2006
Hi Gang,

Welcome back! I haven't been active on comp.dsp for quite awhile, but
contrary to a recent report seen here that dspGuru* is a "dead website",
I'd like to just say that "reports of its death have been greatly
exaggerated": in fact, dspGuru is very much alive and well! Likewise,
I, myself, am still quite involved in DSP: in fact, I've been working
like a slave over the past few months finishing up ScopeFIR Version 4.0,
which will be released within a week!

It's true that dspGuru hasn't been updated much lately, but judging by
the size of its monthly web server log, it still seems to be doing a
whole lot of DSP'ers out there a whole lot of good! And as dspGuru's
home page states, it is quite open to new contributions, so feel free to
send those to me at address indicated below. Even better, since my time
is quite limited, if you would like to become a dspGuru Editor and
revise the existing web pages and/or or convert new submissions to web
form, please contact me. (For example, I really gotta add Danville
Signal Processing to dspGuru's "DSP Boards" page someday--anybody wanna
do that? ;-)

Also, if you contribute to any other new resources similar to dspGuru, I
_highly_ recommend you do so under non-exclusive terms, and that you
also submit your material to dspGuru so it will be seen by the widest
possible audience, on the premiere DSP information site of its kind!

*BTW, as a historical note for some of you old-timers who remember when
dspGuru began, I gotta tell you that I explicitly _did not_ take any of
the "comp.dsp" domain names (which were quite available at the time)
because I did not want to somehow pretend that my web site had any sort
of "official" status--as a certain Mr. T had just done at the time!

I have the compdsp.com and compdsp.org domain names. I did it in part to protect the names from mischief while we discussed the possibility of creating a new site when it seemed that you had disappeared from the group. I discussed this with a few other regulars in this group and asked them if they would be editors. If dspguru is going to be updated on a regular basis, I don't think we need a "competing" site. We could possibly put something simple up that mostly just linked to dspguru and the FAQ, etc. We also have pictures and presentations from the comp.dsp conference. External links are favored by Google so this might increase traffic to all the sites. Of course, maybe we shouldn't do anything at all. I don't have a lot of strong feelings one way or the other. -- Al Clark Danville Signal Processing, Inc. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Purveyors of Fine DSP Hardware and other Cool Stuff Available at http://www.danvillesignal.com

Thanks, Al. And also to Peter and Rick. ...

Done! (See http://www.dspguru.com/hw/boards.htm.) Heck, I even gave Danville top billing. I haven't bought any DSP boards in awhile, so if anybody has any other links that I should add to that page, I'm open to hearing them. Also, I've got some ideas about how to get you folks more involved in developing and maintaining dspGuru, but those will probably have to wait until I get ScopeFIR 4.0 put out. Stay tuned! =g2 _____________________________________________________________________ Grant R. Analog Devices makes Ez-kit boards for most of their DSPs. Here is a link: http://www.analog.com/processors/productsDatasheets/evaluationKits.html

Leavenworth? I don't think so. Those guys probably get broadband to go along with their high definition TV and home theater. I think he joined a monastery and took a vow of silence. -- Al Clark Danville Signal Processing, Inc. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Purveyors of Fine DSP Hardware and other Cool Stuff Available at http://www.danvillesignal.com
Hey! Grant!

What? No rant?

;)

Good to hear from ya again, and glad to hear that you still poke at
dspguru from time to time.

Don't be a stranger!
