SPP EPP

Started by Peter Choi July 6, 2004
Hello,

Just tried out the utilities that came with the TI C6711 DSK. There is this
DOS based Test C6x11 DSK Ports and produced the following outputs:
Address 378, SPP Mode=Pass
Address 378, EPP Mode=Fail
Address 278, SPP Mode=Fail
Address 278, EPP Mode=Fail
.
.
Test Complete - No Configuration Performed.

Can someone tell me what those mean?

It says your computer has only 1 parallel port, at IO address 378, which is typical, and that it functions as a standard parallel port (SPP), but not an extended parallel port (EPP). If your computer isn't too old, you can probably change the parallel port mode support in the BIOS setup.

I can only guess. The host program is looking for a suitable parallel port on the host machine, and found one that corresponds to LPT1, but not EPP capable. That's an IEEE 1284 spec.
