A warning from Rick Lyons

Started by Rick Lyons April 16, 2006
Hi Guys,

  WARNING:

  Alcohol and algebra don't mix.
  Don't drink and derive.

If you're going to drink, make sure you have
a designated deriver.

If you do plan to drink and derive, check the proof first!

Tell me about it. Yesterday, I crunched some numbers. ----------------------------------- Have you been taking derivatives? * Patients on derivatives and their families or caregivers should watch for worsening depression symptoms, unusual changes in behavior and thoughts of suicide, as well as for anxiety, agitation, panic attacks, difficulty sleeping, irritability, hostility, aggressiveness, impulsivity, restlessness, or extreme hyperactivity. * Call the doctor if you have thoughts of suicide or if any of these symptoms are severe or occur suddenly. * Be especially observant at the beginning of treatment or whenever there is a change in dose. * You should not stop taking derivatives abruptly. Talk to your doctor before you stop taking derivatives. * If you get a rash or hives while taking derivatives, call your doctor right away because this can be a sign of a serious medical condition. * Tell your doctor if you have ever been told you had Bipolar Disorder ("Manic Depression") or have had a "manic" or "psychotic" episode.

designated driver == dumb sucker but I guess designated deriver == smart sucker :-) Steve
Is drinking different than smoking. I don't see any benefit in both
habits. Infact the danger is great in both things. Either you drink and
drive or derive or devise.

They may be different what deriving is concerned. I remember hearing an anecdote about an academic who was complaining about the dispicable quality of his glasses "can't get a decent pair of glasses these days!" No one really knew why, until they saw him at work over his maths papers (this was in the pen and paper era, long before PCs). He crunched low over the paper, his nose some 15 cm from the surface of his desk, chain smoking as if there were no tomorrow. The smoke from his cigarettes coated his glasses with this gooey stuff that made him see nothing. Rune

(snipped) Ha ha. That's pretty cute John. It explains the panic attacks I had while taking Calc I & Calc II in college. [-Rick-]

Well, if the machine has got SOBER, drink, but then administer it after you having got sober. :-) Martin
