what does the DSS stand for?

Started by Unknown April 17, 2006
Recently I am studing the TIDSP. I find DSS is very common in the MCBSP
program. I want to know the exact meaning of the DSS. Originally I
think it is a module in the DSP/BIOS configuration, but I can't find the
help in the Code Composer Studio. If anyone know the answer, please tell
me.Many thanks!

Can you precisely tell on studying about what, did you come across DSS? I assume that you are trying to do some work on audio/video coding using DSP/BIOS. If my assumption is right, the DSS you are looking for stands for Digital Satellite System. It is a MPEG satellite standard (properitery) used in North America. Am I answering your question? - Krishna
thank you very much. You are quite right.I have been studying the
TIDSP.I want to impliment the blind equalizer based on the Constant
Modulus Alogrithm with the TMS320C5410.Now I.m studying the DSB/BIOS
application. The DSS is found with many books about the introduction to
the DSP/BIOS program.Maybe you're right,I think so.

If you are going to code DSS using DSP/BIOS, please keep in mind that DSS is a propreitary belonging to DIRECTV. You may have to use separate pipes for DSS reception and transmission. DSS is very much similar to DVB, but you cannot find as many documentation about it - the same propreitary problem. DSS also uses QPSK like DVB, but with a smaller packet size, and so their receivers are not completely compatible. One more similarity is that both these scheme use Vitrebi and Reed Solomon, but with different code rates. So, why can't you try DVB instead of DSS? The DVB standard is open and I am sure you can find more theoritical material on DVB than DSS. This is just a personal connotation. - Krishna

My guess is that DSS in your context is "digital speech standard". BTW, it took Google 0.19 secs to find it...unfortunately it took me longer ( a few secs ) to type the search into google. Cheers Bhaskar

It's a secret kept by the CIA. Revealing it would compromise my health and possibly lead to instant death....or was it instant coffee? ...can't really remember....
