Hey Richard, I don't think there is any such thing, i.e., usenet is not a "one-server/many client" architecture. It is a "many-server/many client" architecture. Usenet articles propagate around the world to all usenet news servers via the NNTP (Network News Transport Protocol), then clients suck the news off of their respective servers. I think. --Randy

If enough people ask their respective ISP to carry comp.soft-sys.octave (or whatever), it might just "appear".

The difference is when we use control messages like "newgroup <newgroup-name>" things are automatized (not on all servers but most).

In a short while I can use usenet. That means that a. I don't have subscribe to anything b. I don't have to go to a website (and thus use a web interface) to get messages but instead can use a usenet news client. c. I don't get unsolicited messages d. My message persists in a thread. e. etc., etc. --RY
