Greg Berchin's "Precise Filter Design" in IEEE Signal Processing Magazine

Started by Randy Yates December 19, 2006
Hi Greg,

I just wanted to tell you "Thank You" for a useful and well-written
article. The technique you described is not one I have come across
and is certainly a useful "trick" to add to one's bag.

Thanks again!

A URL would rock. Eric Jacobsen Minister of Algorithms, Intel Corp. My opinions may not be Intel's opinions. http://www.ericjacobsen.org

Which issue is it in? I'm woefully behind on my tech reading, in fact my IEEE SPS mags are still in the plastic dating back several months.

January 2007. (And mine usually stay in the plastic quite awhile too.) It's not even on IEEE XPlore yet. -- % Randy Yates % "With time with what you've learned, %% Fuquay-Varina, NC % they'll kiss the ground you walk %%% 919-577-9882 % upon." %%%% <yates@ieee.org> % '21st Century Man', *Time*, ELO http://home.earthlink.net/~yatescr

Speaking of IEEE Xplore, does anyone else think the pricing for access to the digital versions of papers a little excessive? There are basically two choices, US$420 per year for up to 30 papers a month or US$10 per paper. I usually find about 10-20 papers per year that I would be interested in reading, but at $10 per paper thats up to $200 anw with the other option its $21 per paper. These prices just seem totally over the top for the privilege of downloading a 4-10 page PDF. I've been a member of the IEEE (and the SPS) for over 10 years but I'm seriously considering dropping my membership at the end of 2007 if the IEEE can't offer more cost effective access to these papers. Does anyone else feel this way? Where is the paper? Is it on public domain?

On the IEEE pricing thing : I keep getting pissed off that we attach
sooo much of money to educational material. This is ridiculous.
Everything is getting commericalized. Thats why I like these google
groups where u can get nice information from heroes but free... I cant
believe IEEE Explore is sooo prohibitively expensive.

I really wish that mankind gets some sense and makes these papers and
publications free.

I wonder : Would the original author of the paper also charge me money
if I had asked him/her that I want to read the paper for my knowledge?

I doubt ...
