Those bivuacs are brilliant. I bought mine after a hike in the Saltfjellet area in -97 or -98. I was "surprised" by wind and rain -- meaning I was not prepared for those sorts of conditions -- and had to flee the weather for 30 km to reach my car. From the point I understood the blisters on my feet needed attending, to I found enough shelter to actually stop, I walked for some 5 - 7 km. The shelter was a 50 cm dent in the ground which just served the purpose when I put my rucksack on top. This was in early or mid August. After that, I bought a Fjellduken Thermo. Now it is no problem whatsoever to stop for two to five minutes, or even longer, no matter the conditions.

Good stuff. Mind you, the est gear is bought on the smallest places. That's where people actually have first hand experience of using such stuff.

I forgot the most important issue for such a trip: These areas are subject to restricted public access during the breeding season for the local wildlife. If you decide to go, make sure to check with local wildlife protection authorities what restrictions apply in the areas you intend to go, at the time you intend to go. Rune
