So much so that a new algorithm, the ICT (Integer Cosine Transform) was invented for it. Without hardware multiply, coefficients with fewer '1's run faster. The inverse transform is slower, but can be run on a faster computer on earth. http://tmo.jpl.nasa.gov/progress_report/42-119/119M.pdf -- glen
