equalizer with different location of the main tap

Started by zohreh August 22, 2007
Hi there,

I simulate a system with upsampling 4 at the transmitter. Then, I use the
equalizer and change the main tap. when I use different location for main
tap, the amount of timing error the receiver can beer is different and
depends on the location of the main tap.

Now, I realize that the timing error can change the group delay and
equalizer can compensate for that.
Is there anyone knows how the timing error can affect the group delay (any
reference) and how the location of the main tap of equalizer affect the
amoune of compensating of the timing error?

Thank you.

Hello,

hint:
* Calculate your equalizer response treating it as FIR filter.
* Find the complex frequency response...
* ... resulting in the phase vs. frequency...
* ... resulting in the group delay (timing error)
* ... resulting in the group delay distortion

Cheers

Markus
PS: Watch out for those "pi"s ...
Thanks a lot. It make sense.
