Started by Rick Lyons November 7, 2007
Hi Guys,
In case you didn't know, Wiley & Sons, in conjunction
with the IEEE Press, has published a new DSP book.
It's titled: "Streamlining Digital Signal Processing:
A Tricks of the Trade Guidebook."

It's a terrific book in terms of providing real-world,
super-practical, tips & tricks regarding many
different DSP topics.
As it turns out, many of the book's chapters were
written by some of the DSP experts here on comp.dsp.
I am the book's editor and one of its "Contributors".

The Wiley Marketing people asked me to post an
announcement here on comp.dsp regarding the book,
and they've agreed to give any of you a 20% discount
on the sale price of the book. The pricing info is:

Original price: $74.95 (U.S. dollars)
Comp.dsp discount price is $59.96. (U.S. dollars)

You can learn more about the book by visiting:

http://www.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WileyTitle/productCd-0470131578.html

If you decide to buy the book, then as you go through
the book-ordering web pages you'll have an opportunity
to enter a "Promotion Code". If you enter the code
AUT27 you'll receive a 20% discount on the price of
the book.

So, ... if such a DSP book interests you please have
a look at the above web site to learn more about
the book.

Below is Wiley & Sons's description of the book:

Based on the popular "DSP Tips & Tricks" column in IEEE Signal
Processing magazine, this book provides DSP tricks-of-the-trade,
practical shortcuts, and clever engineering designs from experienced
digital signal processing (DSP) professionals.

Covering a wide array of signal processing topics, such as digital
filtering, spectrum analysis, demodulation, generating specialized
signals, high-speed function approximation, and various other DSP
operations, this book provides elegant engineering solutions used by
working engineers to reduce the cost, increase the processing speed,
and improve the performance of their DSP systems.

Written in a style that is both professional and lucid, the DSP topics
are carefully introduced, described with just the right amount of
mathematics, and thoroughly explained with clear writing and an
abundance of figures. Chapter topics are written in a standalone
manner, so the subject matter can be read in any desired order.

The contributors to this book make up a dream team of skilled DSP
engineering-authors-experienced in both building high-performance DSP
systems and describing their designs in practical easy-to-understand
language. While rich in specialized DSP tips and tricks making it a
valuable resource for experienced working engineers, this material
contains sufficient fundamental DSP theory and simple mathematics to
make it accessible to students. Bridging the theory-to-practice gap,
this is a very different DSP book!

Just in time Rick! I ordered the book last week at the original price! Oh well, my employer will be paying for it, and besides - I anticipate that it'll be worth every penny they pay for it. :-) I'm looking forward to its arrival! -- Jim Thomas Principal Applications Engineer Bittware, Inc jthomas@bittware.com http://www.bittware.com (603) 226-0404 x536 A great mind thinks alike.

Any chance there is also a promotion discount on "Understanding Digital Signal Processing (2nd Edition)"? Understanding Digital Signal Processing (2nd Edition)

Hi Jim, Shoot. Oh well. Timing is "everything", isn't it? As for the book's value, if you run across a topic (some DSP description) in the book that saves you merely 1-2 hours at work, then the book has more than payed for itself (from the standpoint of your employer). The book's text is written in the most "readable" way that was possible. I think you'll like it. Good Luck Jim, [-Rick-]

Yes it is! I had ordered the book through Amazon and was wondering why it hadn't shown up yet. So I went to check the status of my order and found that it was not going to ship until next week sometime. So I canceled the order and will get it from your link. I noticed that my local bookshop had it in stock today so I picked one up - first thing I noticed were some familiar contributors' names! Cheers, Howard (London, UK)
