Started by Chang-Tsun Li January 8, 2008
The Fourth International Conference on Intelligent Information Hiding
and Multimedia Signal Processing
Harbin, China, August 15-17, 2008

Special Session: Multimedia and Information Retrieval

The convergence of ICT and multimedia processing techniques in the last
two decades has resulted in an enormous wealth of media , such as text,
audio, speech, music, image and video, which populates the internets and
various types of databases around the worlds, and requires new indexing
techniques to deal with its enormity. In response to these indexing
needs and challenges, we propose a special session on Multimedia and
Information Retrieval in an attempt to provide a forum for researchers
to exchange the state-of-the-art knowledge and developments in this area.

Topics of the proposed area cover, but not limited to, the following:

Content-based indexing, search, and retrieval of multimedia

Semantic-based indexing, search, and retrieval of multimedia

Advanced descriptors and similarity metrics for multimedia

Learning and relevance feedback in multimedia retrieval/information

Ontologies for annotation and search of multimedia/information

 Image/video summarization and visualization

 Multimodal human computer interaction

 Evaluation of multimedia/information retrieval systems

Query models, paradigms, and languages for multimedia/information
retrieval

 Database architectures for multimedia/information retrieval

Novel multimedia/information data management systems and applications

 3D images and models

Multimedia/information search and browsing on the Web

Applications in satellite, forensic, (bio-)medical image and video
collections
