For sometime I have been wondering what will be the future of DSP maybe 5 years down the line or 10 years down the line. Based on that future of many people related to dsp "dsprelated people" will also take shape. Any insights? Why I am asking is many alternative technologies are picking up fast. From some people I heard is nano-technology will be one of them. Regards Bharat Pathak Arithos Designs ~dsp Simplified.

Or would it be Giga-technology? +9 instead of -9? Whenever the sort of question comes up around "what's next" or "what's left to be invented?" I point out that I STILL don't have George Jetson's machine that would pick him up out of bed, shave, shower and dress him, so that he came out, still asleep, at the other end ready for the day. I'd like one of those a whole lot. Eric Jacobsen Minister of Algorithms Abineau Communications http://www.ericjacobsen.org

I'd like one of those a whole lot.I have the answer for much of that. Grow a beard. Retire. :-) If you replace technology technology for processing signals with something else, are you still processing signals? The question seems to ask what will replace DSP, not what new techniques and devices will be used. Then we can all retire, as you say. [I've not looked at the maths or theory of quantum computers, but the way that people describe their *use* makes them seem indistinguishable from the analog (op-amp) computers of yore: apply enough gain and feedback and bingo: you get the right answer once the system reaches steady state (unless you hit saturation or noise-floor on an internal node). Yes, I was lucky enough to play with a large, pluggable analog computer at Uni: warped my brain ever since. Are the quantum computers *really* doing anything different?] Cheers, -- Andrew

Jobs leave India to go to China, where cheapest of all. Number EEs in America dropped big time over last bunch of years. Must be same everywhere, but places were cost very low. Can you say "Get frys with that?" Regards, Kamar Ruptan DSP Guru (until jobs go away)
