What isn't gibberish is apparently the Savo dialect of Finnish. Here's the YouTube version of the Loituma performance of "Ievan Polkka": http://youtube.com/watch?v=vjvVBCNcL_A&feature=related Scott -- Scott Hemphill hemphill@alumni.caltech.edu "This isn't flying. I'm circulating this among some of the family that's closer to our Finnish roots to see where I get with it. I know a number of folks at Nokia in Finland who could probably opine as well. If you follow the links on the group it appears that they're all accomplished musicians. Hi Rune, Ha ha. Neat! Is there any chance you can turn one of the moose into a pet for your kids? Maybe that's a bad idea. You probably don't need another mouth to feed. [-Rick-]

My friend came back from Sweden ecstatic about moose steak. She brought some lingenberry jam made by the hunter. You're not a Leningrad Cowboys fan? They're really good, creative and a lot of fun to boot. Check 'em out if you haven't. They've done a lot of stuff with the Red Army Choir which is just an interesting juxtaposition in a lot of ways. FWIW, the group's name is Loituma. Evidently they've been around for a while and their musical pedigrees are quite strong. It's a very nice discovery-of-the-day sort of thing for me. ;) They have a myspace page with some cuts on it: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=77443125 Eric Jacobsen Minister of Algorithms Abineau Communications http://www.ericjacobsen.org
