DSP56311EVM JTAG communication problem.

Started by Roman Rumian February 22, 2003
Dear Sirs,

we have bought 9 DSP56311EVM modules for our DSP lab, and after 1,5 year I have
a serious problem - half of them do not want communicate with PC. Three
communicate with some of PC's, one with none of them.
Configuraton of LPT is O.K. - I tried EPP as well as ECP.
What is the source of this problem (the JTAG circuit looks simply) and what to
do ?
50 students will start soon a new laboratory course.

Best regards

Hello Roman,

We have similar problem with our designs based on DSP56F807. When we used a fast LVC logic on a 244 octal buffer (74LVC244) on the JTAG interface device doesn't want communicate with some of PCs (most of notebooks for example). Then we resoldered it to the 74HC244 and it start work with all our PCs. (Of course, 74HC244 are not 5V tolerant when supplies from 3.3V but so this solution is not 100%)

currently I see AC244 buffers on my boards.
Yesterday, Motorola support sent me a new version of software, but none of 6 tested boards do not communicate with my new PC (ASUS P4B533-E motherboard). I am about toi check it in laboratory - hope this help (we currently shift from Win98 op. sys. to w2k). If not, I order 74HC244. Which one you mean - U5 ?

Many thanks for response !
