DSP56F8xx OnCE vs HC12 BDM Comparison

Started by Hoffman, Frank March 28, 2002
I'm interested to know what the difference is as far as debugging features
are between the DSP56F8xx Family's JTAG/OnCE and the MC68HC12, rather
HCS12's BDM (Background Debug Module). We are thinking about the HCS12 or
DSP56F8xx as a platform for many of our products and we will no longer
purchase processors that require an expensive ICE, IN ADDITION to speed and
a expandable memory bus for memory and I/O. I do know the BDM port is of an
older design, but, we would need multiple break points and instruction
tracing. I believe the DSP stuff can track 6 program flow control
instructions.

Thanks in advance,
Frank
