I'm
setting up a production line and need to be able to FLASH my boards (DSP56F803)
without the operator having to be in the CW application.
All we are
flashing is a custom version of the serial boot loader that works over RS485, so
it's small and I know I could use the free version of CW, but I'm
trying to reduce complexity on the line.

You can
use the flash_over_jtag application to do this. This is a open source program
that is command line driven and uses the parallel port command converter
connected to the JTAG port. You can find this program on the SPS FAQ site and it
is also included on our training CDs. Thanks.

Here's something that took us a little
while to figure out: To use flash_over_jtag you need to configure your CW to
generate S-records with a maximum line length of 80 characters, sort by address,
and DOS end-of-line characters. Those options are found in CW under: Edit,
YourProjectName Settings, Linker.

Just follow the link
http://e-www.motorola.com/webapp/sps/site/faq_search.jsp ; put 19703 as
keyword search, then submit the query. The first of two results is the one of
your interest. In fact, the link given by Douglas doesn't
bring you directly to the FAQ19703, but only in the main search
page.

On the FAQ page select "Digital Signal
Processors", then "56800/E Family", then "DSP56F805" for the product. Search for
"flash_over_jtag". You'll get 2 hits. Click on the one for DSP56F80x. It
takes you to a page with a brief description, source code, executable code, free
compilers if you choose source code, and documentation.
