Newbie info for 56002

Started by janoch23 February 3, 2006
Hi! I'm searching for some tutorial or something on the 56000 series.
I have the "family manual", but I find it's rather cryptic (not
to
mention it's not really suitable for all ages), and probably better
suited as a reference manual once I've gotten an understanding of the 56k.

Can you recommend anything? Preferably available freely online, but
books are also interesting. I have some understanding of DSP
processors, it's just that the 56000UM.pdf is so boring :) I guess I
would rather have something that help get me started.

Thanks /J

I'm not sure of anything specific to the 56002 but there is a "getting
started" guide that I found helpful in understanding the 56300 series.
(The 56300 series is essentially the updated 56000 so you will
probably also find this useful.) It is called "Onyx Labs,
Introduction to the DSP56300" and it does a good job of explaining how
each register type is used, the various types of addressing modes, the
grouping of registers for parallel moves, etc. Included are a number
of exercises with sample code.

I imagine this can probably be found somewhere on the Freescale web
site. I actually found the Onyx Labs tutorial at the developer
section of the Soundart web site. (Soundart makes a DSP audio
processor called "Chameleon" which is an open platform. That is, any
third party developer can download the SDK to write DSP applications
for the Chameleon hardware.) If you are looking into the 24 bit DSPs
for use in an audio application, the Chameleon might be a good
learning tool for this.
