ADSP-2181 IDMA through parallel port

Did you read the Hardware Reference Manual, with the DSPs datasheet at hand? Hello Girish, Yes this is possible. You can do it for instance with the parallel port of your PC in EPP mode. A 82C55 I/O IC can be used to interface the IDMA port: Use the ports A and B to connect the 16 bit IDMA bus; and use port C for the IDMA control lines. Does this mean you have the answer but you want him to find it? If so, do the right thing and tell him at least where to look. Hi Steve, Actually, in some sense that's what I meant, but in some sense, not. I didn't mean I have the answer (although indeed, I do have it). I just wanted him/her to try to find it him/herself, given the abundancy of available literature. Girish didn't say what has he/she done so far, or how much is he/she documented in that regard. So, instead of giving a full explanation, which would be worthless if he/she already documented him/herself, I decided to point out to the already existing documentation about the matter. But you are right, maybe my reply was too quick and general that I didn't point out in the right direction. So, I'd suggest you (Girish) to start reading the information existing in the ADSP-218x Hardware Reference Manual, which you can download from: http://tinyurl.com/3uop2. From pages 9-21 to 9-50 you can find a good explanation on how does that work, etc. Moreover, there are a few Engineer-To-Engineer Notes (Application Notes) regarding IDMA and specifically for the 2181 (most of them also apply for the whole 218x family, keeping in mind the "shared" pins in the '84, '85, '86, '97, '88 and '89: There is also an EE Note about that): - AN-415: ADSP-2181 IDMA Interface to Motorola MC68300 Family of Microprocessors - EE-158: ADSP-2181 EZ-Kit Lite IDMA to PC Printer Port Interface - EE-82: Using an ADSP-2181 DSP's IO Space to IDMA Boot Another ADSP-2181 - EE-38: ADSP-2181 IDMA Port - Cycle Steal Timing - EE-11: ADSP-2181 Priority Chain & IDMA Holdoffs These can be downloaded from http://www.analog.com/processors/processors/ADSP/technicalLibrary/, a webpage that I recommend you (and all the ADSPers who work with the 21xx) to bookmark. And a suggestion, please be more specific with your postings. The more specific and clear you are, the better the answers you will get, whatever the newsgroup / mailing list you post to (comp.dsp , , etc...).
