biquad filters..!!!

I have an FRS demo model,..on receiver side there is decimation and filtering ,
for that Biquad Direct Form 2 SOS filters have been used, i am unable to
understand its working :( and after decimation , channelizer block with IIR
biquad filters is used...these models are in made Simulink using System
Generator blocksets,...can anybody kindly help me in understanding them ,...and
secondly what exactly are biquad filters used for?

Check out http://www.bores.com/courses/intro/iir/5_form1.htm
and go up and down the chain. Also do a web search on "introduction to
dsp" and pick out iir filtering. Most of what you'll find is fir, but
ignore that for now and dive into what want to know.
It's fundamental to dsp, so it's worth knowing!
