Help in choosing a DSP devlopment platform

Started by clif...@orangecactus.net December 1, 2008
Hello all-

I am currently considering the purchase of a new DSP development platform which will be used for the creation of digital audio processing units. At the moment both Analog Devices and Texas Instruments have some very good deals available on certain software and hardware pieces for this kind of thing, and I was wondering what some of you have found as far as "pluses" and "minuses" between the SHARC ADSP-21369 and the TI C6000 DSPs, as well as the VisualDSP++ and Code Composer Studio IDE's for them.

I am primarily interested in floating-point DSPs for my hardware development, but I am also open to any suggestions from folks as far as fixed-point DSPs for high-end audio processing. I know that Freescale still produces the Motorola 56000 DSP chips, which are common in some audio processing boxes out there. My experience has primarily been DSP for industrial process control modules up to this point, so this will be my first chance to develop a entire system from the ground up. Plus, it's for my own "product", and I am footing the bills myself so I especially want to make those dollars count now and in the future the best that I can!
Thank-You in advance,

Cliff
