CCS 3.3 with C6711

Started by tiag...@yahoo.com.br August 22, 2008
Hi everybody!

I'm having a little problem with the famous CCS.

I was using the CCS v2.0 to run the C6711 board, but I got the latest version of the software v3.3 and tryed to run the board with it.
The configuration of the Setup was OK and the only problem appears when I try to run the CCS. A message of warning:
"Unable to find an appropriate registry key for "TMS320C62XX"

Target driver: D:\CCStudio_v3.3\drivers\tisimC6xxx.drv"
and then the program closes.

I think the problem is with the windows and the registry (regedit), but I tryed to search something strange or missing there and found nothing.
If anyone have some idea of what the problem may be...

Thanks!

Question -- what driver did you choose in CCS setup? The driver name you give
doesn't sound like a DSK board driver.

The only key that I know of by that name is
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GODSP\CodeComposer\TMS320C62XX]
and it has [or had] something to do with plugins.

Try some different simulators - c6x, c5x, c28x and see what happens.

Jeff, sorry about the personal mail, I'm sending to the c6x group now.
I'm not a DSP worker yet and the kits we have here were a donation for the university I study.
The problem is that theC6711board with the CCS 2.0 wasn't working so well. My teacher won the kit of the 28355 eZdsp and it came with the CCS 3.3.
Myidea was to use the C6711 board with the new Code Composer, upgrading the lab. we work.
I tryed toconfigure the setup with the C6711 drivers (first with the ones that were at the CCS 3.3 CD and after with those at the CCS 2.0 CD)butthismessage about the registry error didn't let me work.
My friend have contact with the Texas Support and they told himto unistall the old CCSanddelete some registry at the regedit too.
I didn't know the CCS have some "limited" versions too, how can I see it?
Thanks everybody for the help, I'llunistall the Kit completelly and try again with the drivers that are at the same CD.

Is this a small fact omitted from the original email or did I just miss it??
Your results and confession match my original diagnosis - 'You have a
CCS 3.3 installation that is picking up info from an older version
install.'
I would never install something from an older version of CCS unless I
knew exactly what I was doing.
I do not know anything about the 'limited versions' of CCS, but I do
know that the full version will work with the 'dvr' files from CCS 3.3
[you will need to pickup a couple of DDLs from a DSK install]. If you
check the archives, I think that you will find some info related to
the subject.

I agree with Jeff. Although I have heard of people going to "extreme
measures" like disk formatting, it was only to do 'another free
install'.

Well I think the thing to do is simply to ask TI for a "DSK version" of CCS that
supports the DSK 6711 board. They should be able to do that, especially since it's a
University application. Your explanation is reasonable, I don't see why they
wouldn't support this situation.

I have some doubt about the CCS that comes with the 28355 board -- that may be a
limited version, "tied to the 28355". You can try it, but if it starts to give you
problems then it may not be worth the time.
