Hi all, I'd like to do a project using an Analog Devices Blackfin 531/532 but definately won't have access to a JTAG interface and, unless I can get the current US$99 EZ-Kit deal here in New Zealand, without the JTAG-USB debug on the AD dev kit. Will it be easy to get the chip running on a custom board? Does anyone have experience like this? I have access to VisualDSP (90 days) so can do some debugging. Specifically I will be attempting JPEG compression on colour video fields (not real time ~5 fields /sec) and so will be using the PPI, external SDRAM (maybe also low power SRAM) and the serial ports and maybe to a FTDI USB chip. Alternatively has anyone done a similar thing with a TI VC509? thanks Ian -- Using M2, Opera's revolutionary e-mail client: http://www.opera.com/m2/

Hi, thanks for your reply. I tried the local Memec and they quoted around what I could get direct from AD. Also tried Excelpoint in Australia but I was too late to catch a special offer so price is now similar to Memec. I tried some of the large distributors in the US but they can't export at the special price. It looks like I might give up on the Blackfin and go for a TI'5509. Hi Ian, I also missed the promotion for the the BF533 and I also want to create small board for the 5509 :-) I know that Spectrum Digital has KIT with this DSP and it is well documented in their manual. If you find schematics of the c5509 KIT please let me know. I'll keep you informed aslo Regards Penev Ian <ian.downes@slingshot.co.nz> wrote in message news:<opr5rd3ke506e8yt@news.slingshot.co.nz>...> Hi, > thanks for your reply. > I tried the local Memec and they quoted around what I could get direct > from AD. Hi, Yes, the promo is running until the end of April I think but is limited to North America only. I tried asking them but they can't export to me here in New Zealand and I don't know anyone in the US to receive and forward to me. This is for an honours project as part of my degree so I haven't got a lot of time to spend trying to source tools etc. My department supports TI at the moment so will most likey go for a TI chip. Dimitar, ADI do provide almost complete schematics as part of the manual (ADSP-BF533 EZ-KIT Lite Evaluation System Manual, available on their site). They don't provide information on their JTAG-USB functionality and won't release any details of it. The schematics do include all the other peripherals though. Also, the web version of their IDE is limited to 90 days I think and the version packaged with the eval kit limits code size to 20k.
