LPC to cepstra conversion

please help me to understand why we need LPC to cepstra conversion ? how its work(steps) ?

gee, i seem to remember my old Rabiner and Schafer book doing this.

looks hard.  (page 442 of "Digital Processing of Speech Signals")  i 
dunno if i ever really learned this connection between LPC and cepstrum, 
but i remember it existed.
