audio signal processing for music transcription

Started by Jack January 16, 2007
Hello all, I am interested in the above subject and wondered if anyone
was familiar with it in terms of:
- are there any good books on the topic?
- is software available for this?

I am considering attempting to make my own software on a modest scale
but I don't want to start from zero if it's all been done.

Thanks for any help,

Jacques

Don't know; probably not.

No. This is a very difficult topic.

Something very similar was discussed here recently: http://groups.google.co.uk/group/comp.dsp/browse_frm/thread/c585453cc447eacb/769ba67675909165?lnk=gst&q=brass+woodwind&rnum=1&hl=no#769ba67675909165 Rune
Hi Jack.

The only book (on this topic) I know of is

@Book{KLAPURIBOOK,
   editor = {Klapuri, Anssi and Davy, Manuel},
   title = {Signal Processing Methods for Music Transcription},
   publisher = {Springer},
   address = {New York},
   year = {2006},
   ISBN = {0-387-30667-6}
}

As for software, you may want to have a look at the many wave to midi
converters.

I don't know about books, but I know there have been a number of, if not many, research papers of the topic.
