DSP Hardware

Started by lm317t February 5, 2008
I have been playing with DSP audio for years on general purpose PC's
using octave/matlab and implementing the algorithms in C and verilog.
I have noticed that hardware DSP is starting to be embedded in various
MCUs like AVR32, Blackfin, etc.

Basically I'd like to play with some real hardware but I don't know
what eval board to look into.

How does the DSP performance of the AVR32 on the NGW100 compare with
the AD Blackfin BF532 Stamp? I can't find DSP comparisons for this
chip anywhere.

One of the most effective teachers I ever had told me "if it ain't in the data sheet, they ain't proud of it". The AVR32 isn't promoted as a 'real' DSP chip; I wouldn't expect it to behave like one. -- Tim Wescott Control systems and communications consulting http://www.wescottdesign.com Need to learn how to apply control theory in your embedded system? Well said! I'm going to have to remember that quote. Al Clark Danville Signal Processing, Inc.

It is a very strange idea to look for the task for the CPU instead of looking for the CPU for the task.

If you don't know that for yourself then it doesn't matter. Any board would do.

How to compare a bear to a wolf? I'd say the bear has the big ass however the wolf has the long dick. It depends on what is more important in your case. VLV

Animal dicks and asses? Did I post in the right forum? I thought I closed that alt.sex.animals window and posted in comp.dsp My bad

beastiality is one of the more esoteric topics in signal processing. there's a lot one can learn in this newsgroup. now back to my Xaviera Hollander book. r b-j
