Boxview debugger

Started by Unknown December 29, 2000
Hi,

Has anyone ever used BoxView Debugger from Domain Technologies?
What are the advances or improvements does Boxview have over
Debug-56K? Does anyone know any other debugger for Motorola DSP?
Thanks in advance.

Henry.

As far as I know the BoxView Debugger supports remote debugging by TCP/IP
protocol as well as debugging connected to Mot's OnCE port directly. I
have tried this debugging tool several years ago but stuck to Domain
Technologies' Debug-56k since I have got used to that tool. A year or so
later Domain technologies bought the company (I think their name was
SoftBox) and replaced their own Debug-56K debugger by the BoxView
toolchain (The price is also the same as it was for the Debug-56k box).
Today you can buy a simple 'Wiggler' adaptor called DSPCOMMPARALLEL for
$150 directly from a Motorola distributor which is to be connected to the
PC's parallel printer port and download their debugging software from
their
website

http://www1.motorola-dsp.com/software/software.taf?type=releases

(The CD-ROM was _not_ included in the box I purchased). I have tried this
debugging tool with the EVM56303DSP evaluation board and it worked well.
The same software can be used with a PCI-card based ($2000) or ethernet
debugger($3000 or so, but even Motorola does not recommend this tool).

I hope I could help you a little bit...

Christian-

We have used a Wiggler for some MPC8240 work. Very slow and we find that a
traditional PCI card is still preferable, but for some basic stuff it's Ok.

Do you know if there is a Wiggler available for Texas Inst. C54xx processors?
