G.721vsG.729

Started by Prateek Shrivastava March 23, 2003
Hi guys,
I am doing a project, comparing ADPCM & CELP.
For this i have chosen G.721 for ADPCM & G.729 standard for CELP.
In these,
1)What are the parameters that can be compared in these 2?
2)How can the Mean squared error be found out?
3)Are the MOS scores standard for the results, irrespective of the
platform or input file?
4)Is it necessary to implemnt these on UNIX or SUN Ultra Sparc
station or can it be implemented in MATLAB,if Yes, how?
6)In the G.729 code files, there is a .spd file, what is the way to
play & listen to it?
I tried it with Sound command in MATLAB,but the quality was very
poor...only for FsF00-4800 with 16bits is the audibilty OK.

That is a long list of queries:-), i'll be grateful for the response,

Sincerely,
Prateek.Shrivastava

Hi Prateek:

(1) You could compare delay, MIPS, memory needs, code size, transparency to
non-voice signals (signalling, FAX, TDD, alarm systems, music), tolerance to
channel errors, tandeming with other codecs, input level sensitivity, background
noise sensitivity, comfort noise generation and MOS.

(2) I'm not sure what MSE you mean. Perhaps MSE of the MOS scores?

(3) MOS scores are platform independent but do vary a little with input file as
a function of male versus female, language, etc.

(4) I do not know of Matlab G.729 code. Chuck Hutton
