hi, all, I am a little confused here. What is the difference between MPEG-2 AAC and MPEG-4 AAC? They all have main profile, LC. Can I see them just as different profiles? Is there any difference in the bit stream format? Do they require different decoders? Also the licensing, does MPEG-4 AAC also cover MPEG-2 AAC? Thanks syl

Hi all, Need a bit of guidance. I am planning to do a small project out of my own interest and learning. I have choosen to implement an Mpeg encoder/deocder. Planning to provide support for both mpeg 2 and 4. But i am stuck at one point. The ISO standard specs cost around 140 $ each. And for Mpeg 2 there are some 10 standards. Now i would not be able to invest so much. I searche...

Hello group, I am having problems getting a PBI DCH-2000EC MPEG-2 encoder to operate correctly with a DMV system 3000 MPEG-2 modulator via RS 422 parrallel. I know it is not a problem with the modulator as it operates OK when using a different MPEG-2 transport stream from an Alteia professional grade QPSK satellite receiver (with a bitrate of 33.75 MB/sec from an active satellite mux). When i...

While posting to the DCT vs. FFT discussion, I was reminded of some thoughts related to MPEG and video compression. It seems to me that one case that MPEG doesn't do well is rapid changes in overall illumination. Specifically, the case where many flash photographs are being taken in a short time. That causes little problem with analog video, where frames are independent of each other. ...

Hi all. I have just spent a few days making some small MPEG movies that illustrate certain wave propagation phenomena. First of all, while I have made movies for my own use for the last 7 or 8 years, being able to actually make MPEG movies from time-domain simulated data has opened up a whole new world to me. All of a sudden I can send a small ( < 10 MB) movie to just about anyone, and

Hello, Supose you need to compress two independent video streams, each one being 4-CIF (704 x 480) at 15 fps for a surveillance application, and that they (both) need to be steramed thru the same network but the max bitrate that you have for that streaming function is 2 Mbps. Which one of the following codecs would you use? - H.264 Baseline Profile - MPEG-4 Simple Profile - MPEG-4...

Hi everyone, I'm currently investigating some audio-codecs used in radio-broadcasting. Apart of the technical issues involved there is obviously the topic of licencing. On the MPEG FAQ I found a contact at Philips for MPEG layer 2: w.l.vanderkruk@patents.corp.philips.com Unfortunately this email-address / mail-server does not seem to exist anymore. Does anyone here have any pointe...

Hello, Suppose you have a surveillance project on which two 4-CIF NTSC streams (704 x 480) @ 15 fps have to be encoded for network streaming and for storage, and that the network bandwidth is up to 2 Mbps.
