Missing ports/pins on Demo Brd (56F8300DEMO)

Started by Nicholas Singh November 10, 2003
Hello,

Seems as though this board is missing the PCB-mount DB9 serial port
as well as what appears to be some RS-232 logic level shifting IC(s)
and analog parts. Also, the Timer/PWM, ADC and GPIO/SERIAL set of
connectors do not have pins.

I'm specifically interested in getting the RS-232 functionality
going, but I need to know what parts need to be soldered. Can anyone
help me out on this one?

Thanks -- please email

To make the RS232 work on the 8300DSK, you need to add the level-translating IC
and 5 capacitors as noted in the DSK schematic on page 24 of the PDF (http://e-
www.motorola.com/files/dsp/doc/user_guide/MC56F8300DBUM.pdf).

The schematic references a Sipex SP3232, but the Maxim MAX3232 appears to be a
pin for pin replacement. I've not done the modification on this board, but I
have
successfully done it on the DSP56F800DEMO board (with the Maxim part) which has
the same RS232 block as this board.
