Hi All I want to know how one can initialize a particular state (not necessarily zero state) for "vitdec" built-in command of MATLAB? I want to use this functionality for Tail-Biting Viterbi Decoding in which decoder saves state while trellis construction as well as traceback. Any reply, would be appreciable. Thank you. Hope to hear from you soon. Best Regards Ahmed SALIM

Hi again, I have implemented a band pass IIR elliptical filter using FDATOOL in MATLAB . I have found out it's coefficient & tried to implement the filter using the same coefficient , by writing my own program ( doing recursive calculations using the coefficients) in MATLAB. But the output of program is very weird , the values are exponentially rising & reaching up to 10e146. I think the filter...

hello, any of you has experience with different methods for symbol synchronization so you can help me to implement one of them in a receiver for bpsk modulation? i've implemented a costas loop for carrier recovery and the code i've found for symbol synchronization is too heavy and takes too much time. this is the matlab code: tnow=del*oversampling+1; tau=0; xs=zeros(1,length(y)); % i...

Hi again, I'm sorry to insist on the same subject but I don't see clearly the difference in the relationships between EbN0 and SNR for complex and real signals, specially because in the matlab version I have (7.0.1) the "Describing the Noise Level of an AWGN Channel" of the help is different from the last version of Matlab (or the online help). For complex signals: Eb/N0 = S/N * fs/R For re...

Hi, I did some engineering statistics a long time ago, and can't remember all the techniques that well. I want to calculate the error probability of an MFSK system. I have written a simulation in Matlab where I get the "Metrics" of the M signals. After plotting the data, and doing some curve fitting, it is confirmed that the sent signal has a Gaussian distribution with a certain mu a...

I have a very strange problem with Matlab, I have a vector which has some complex values for example 1.4142 + 0.0000i , all values have imaginary part equal to 0.0000i . when I take imag() or angle() of this vector i do not get zero , instead I get some value like 1.0e-015 * -0.1110 . If I take imag() or angle() of the individual value ans is 0. Why I am not getting the answer = 0 for ...

Hi all, I am currently working on calculating the heart rate variability of some ECG wave forms. The ECG wave is quite periodic with signifigant peaks at steady intervals. Can anyone help me with using Matlab to measure the periods of the waveform? I have also generated some noise to simulate ECG noise bursts. What is the easiest way to go about filtering this noise out if I already know ...

Hello I am an engineering student, relatively new with filters and matlab, I need to design a bandpass butterwoth filter with 2 bands in matlab using the buttord function. I know how to do it for just one band and iwas trying to apply the same approach using 2 bands but i did not work. My questions are: Do i have to design 2 separated bandpass filters and combine them or is there a way do it toget...

Hello, some advertisement: I released a new version of my delay estimation subroutine (Matlab / Octave). It finds the delay and scaling factor between two cyclic (or zero-padded) signals, and applies it to one signal in order to match the other. Download links are on [1] at the top of the page. The main algorithm is described in my blog entry [2] from 2007, which was rewritten a month ag...

I've been coding up a working MATLAB simulation on a Blackfin 533 using the 32 bit fractional data type (fract32). I have used FIR filters to implement convolution to get outputs from different filter stages. I'm using look up tables created from MATLAB to simulate the algorithm internally on the processor. The LUTs consist of secondary path filtered white noise and a 30Hz sine wave also filtered...

Hi, Sorry if this is not the right forum but, I didn't know who else to turn to. I have a quite simple process. I check the result with matlab (as I understand matlab uses the same library). The forward result is...

In matlab how i did is, finding out the n'th stage stage sum values, then see th...

Hi everyone, I searched around and couldnt quite find a problem like this, so sorry if there is a similar post already. In matlab I generate a simple 4th order butterworth filter, code below: [B,A]=butter(4,Wn,'low'); yf=filter(B,A,y); Where 0.0 < Wn < 1.0, with 1.0 corresponding to half the sample rate. My question is ... how do I calculate the delay added by the filter? By
